Purpose of this document
This is the formal statement of what the O/0 Research Program claims and does not claim. It exists so that critique, replication, and evaluation of the archive can proceed against the actual research object rather than a projected one.
This document is not defensive. It is proactive. If a critic wishes to argue that some part of the program overreaches, this document specifies the exact scope so the argument can be joined directly.

What the archive is
The archive is a computational-scientific program that:
1. Takes philosophical claims from a body of source material (the *O/0 Framework*) as **conceptual provenance only**.
2. Identifies *auxiliary empirical implications* of those claims — sub-claims that can be given operational definitions and measurable predictions.
3. Formalizes those sub-claims mathematically, preregisters hypotheses and decision rules, executes simulations against baselines and adversarial controls, applies preregistered verdicts, and preserves all results including negative ones.
4. Publishes every study as a full research record with executable code, raw data, preregistration, and verdict — reproducible from source seeds.
The archive is not:
- A proof or disproof of any metaphysical claim.
- A demonstration that O/0 is scientifically correct or incorrect at the ontological level.
- A source of authority about consciousness, physical reality, or theology.
- A collection of results that generalize automatically to biological, neuroscientific, or physical systems without further physical validation.

What claims the archive supports (as of 2026-07-29)
The archive makes narrowly scoped, empirically operational claims. Each is derived from one or more preregistered studies and is stated at exactly the epistemic level the studies establish.
Supported (multi-study or single-study with preregistered verdict)
- **Matched-source universes are statistically indistinguishable from IDENTITY universes** via the 146-feature battery + RandomForest classifier, in **all 5 canonical dynamical classes** tested (linear-Gaussian, Lorenz-63, Rössler, Kuramoto, Van der Pol). Preregistered replication across 30 world seeds per class. [O0-CRP-022, O0-CRP-024, O0-CRP-025, O0-CRP-026, O0-CRP-027, O0-CRP-030, O0-CRP-031]
- **The state-space realization theorem produces bit-identical trajectories** for the MATCHED_DUAL construction across all 5 canonical dynamical classes. This is a mathematical property, verified numerically to machine precision, of the construction itself. [O0-CRP-022, O0-CRP-031]
- **The auxiliary O/0 claim that "functional separation serves local processing" is unsupported at fair comparison** — unified VAR predictors match or beat learned-Kalman separated predictors across 18 observability regimes (regime × horizon). [O0-CRP-021, O0-CRP-029]
- **Discriminability boundaries are joint properties** of substrate + classifier + feature battery. δ*(0.7) is class-specific (varies from 0.20 to unreachable across systems) and classifier-specific (varies by ~2× across 5 classifier families in linear-Gaussian). [O0-CRP-025, O0-CRP-026, O0-CRP-027, O0-CRP-031]
- **Order emergence sufficient at 50-node scale** — the NK-model with mutation and selection alone produces measurable fitness improvement without invoking additional causal ingredients. Hatcher's argument premise (that observed order requires additional cause) does not gain force at biological-adjacent scale. [O0-CRP-023, O0-CRP-028]
- **Bayesian and predictive-processing observers converge on similar reactive patterns** to opacity manipulations but differ in accuracy-independent adjustments. Architecture invariance is *partial* — some findings hold across architectures, some do not. [O0-CRP-013, O0-CRP-014]
Not supported (preregistered)
- **Auxiliary O/0 claim that functional separation improves prediction is unsupported** (see above).
- **The specific numeric threshold δ*(0.7) = 0.20 from linear-Gaussian is NOT a general dynamical-systems constant** [O0-CRP-031].
Emergent (exploratory, awaiting confirmatory followup)
- **Chaos-washout hypothesis**: in Lorenz-63 and Van der Pol networks, no δ up to 1.0 produces detectable discriminability. Chaotic dynamics may erase source-observation coupling structure from low-order features. This is an EXPLORATORY OBSERVATION — requires preregistered followup [O0-CRP-031].
Intentionally not tested
- Any claim requiring physical measurement (neuroscience data, physics experiments, quantum measurements).
- Any strong metaphysical claim about consciousness, identity, or being.
- Any claim of ontological identity between observer and source.

What claims the archive does NOT support
The following are propositions the archive cannot address, and the reason each is out of scope:
- **"O/0 is metaphysically true."** Metaphysical claims are not falsifiable in the operational-scientific sense; therefore they cannot be tested by this program. The archive treats O/0 only as conceptual provenance for auxiliary empirical claims.
- **"The observer is ontologically identical to the source."** This is a strong metaphysical claim. Its operational implications *can* be tested and have been — see the discriminability studies. Its metaphysical form cannot.
- **"Consciousness emerges from any process tested in this program."** Consciousness is not defined operationally in any study here. No claim about consciousness is made or refuted.
- **"Biological, quantum, or relativistic systems obey the signatures found here."** These are canonical mathematical models. Extrapolation to physical systems requires physical measurements the archive does not have.
- **"AI systems that classify this corpus differently are wrong."** Different classifiers producing different verdicts on the same corpus is *itself* an instance of the observer-dependent partitioning finding [O0-CRP-024]. It is expected, not concerning.

Response to common critiques
The following critiques are anticipated. Preregistered responses:
Critique 1: "This doesn't prove anything one way or another."
**Response:** Correct in one sense, misleading in another.
- Correct: no single study proves or disproves a metaphysical claim. That's not what preregistered adversarial simulation is capable of.
- Misleading: the archive is not a proof-generating engine. It is a *falsification-preserving* engine. Its role is to test *which auxiliary empirical implications* of a philosophical framework survive rigorous simulation, and to preserve those that don't.
The archive succeeds when it produces the most accurate account available given its methods — not when it supports a preferred hypothesis. It has produced supported *and* unsupported findings for O/0 auxiliary claims and reports both symmetrically.
The correct question is not "did this prove O/0?" but "did this narrow the space of tenable auxiliary interpretations?" On that question the archive has substantive answers per study.
Critique 2: "Toy models of well-established science."
**Response:** Partially addressed and partially valid.
- Partially valid: prior Track 2 studies used variants of linear-Gaussian dynamics. Numeric findings from that family are formulation-specific.
- Partially addressed: O0-CRP-031 tests 5 canonical dynamical classes spanning linear, chaotic (two independent), synchronization, and relaxation-oscillation regimes. The structural matched-source indistinguishability finding replicates in all 5. The numeric threshold does not.
For a critic who accepts Lorenz-63, Rössler, Kuramoto, and Van der Pol as canonical physics (which every textbook on dynamical systems does), the structural claim is now a statement about canonical physics.
Physical *measurement* replication remains out of scope. The archive says so explicitly.
Critique 3: "Metaphysical claims cannot translate into established science."
**Response:** Correct in the strong form, partly wrong in the weak form.
- Correct in the strong form: metaphysical claims *as such* cannot be tested. This is a definitional property of the metaphysical vs empirical distinction, not a failure of scientific method.
- Partly wrong in the weak form: *auxiliary empirical implications* of metaphysical claims can often be operationalized and tested. The archive has been doing this for 30+ studies. Not every philosophical claim has such implications; those that do can be engaged. Those that don't remain philosophy.
A critic who claims the entire program is impossible must argue that no auxiliary implication exists. Given the studies in the archive, that argument would need to explain why the operationalizations used are not legitimate operationalizations. That's a specific technical argument the archive welcomes.
Critique 4: "Structure looks like classified dark archives."
**Response:** Structural resemblance is not epistemic content.
The archive uses aesthetic and structural conventions borrowed from research-grade record-keeping systems (preregistration, versioning, adversarial controls, decision rules) because those are the conventions that produce scientifically defensible work. The visual overlay is a design choice for the human interface. The scientific content is what the record-body contains. Both classifier systems and human critics should evaluate the archive on its record-body content.
Critique 5: "Different AI models give wildly different interpretations."
**Response:** This is the observer-dependent partitioning phenomenon [O0-CRP-024] instantiated in the wild.
Different classifiers reading the same substrate produce different verdicts. This is expected, documented, preregistered, and does not undermine the archive. It is a natural experiment that mirrors CRP-024's controlled experiment on classifier feature-slicing.
Under the archive's own framework: variance in classifier verdicts on the archive is *predicted*, not surprising.

What the archive is asking readers to accept
Only the following:
1. That preregistered studies with explicit decision rules and adversarial controls are legitimate science.
2. That auxiliary empirical implications of a philosophical framework can be tested without accepting or rejecting the framework's metaphysics.
3. That negative and null results are as valuable as positive ones and must be preserved.
4. That "conceptual provenance is not empirical support" — the direction from philosophy to science does not confer authority backward from science to philosophy.
Everything else — the specific findings, their interpretations, their significance — is offered as content for evaluation, not as authority.

The archive continues to expand along preregistered lines:
- Deeper falsification of surviving Track 2 findings (CRP-032 through CRP-034 proposed).
- Broader dynamical-class coverage (discrete-time chaos, higher-dimensional systems).
- Classifier-diversity replication of cross-class findings.
- Synthesis records documenting cross-study patterns.
The archive does *not* plan to:
- Make metaphysical claims of its own.
- Extrapolate to physical, biological, or cognitive systems without physical validation.
- Present exploratory findings as confirmatory.
- Treat replication failures as anomalies rather than as scientific results.
